Brilliant Disguise - Matt Nathanson (Springsteen cover)
It is no secret that I am passionate about musicians who have hard-ons for other musicians. There may not be any human on this great earth with a bigger Bruce Broner than fellow cover lover, Matt Nathanson (with polite nods to The Gaslight Anthem and The Hold Steady).
At the end of my CH internship last summer, Jess pulled me aside and told me she had something I may be interested in. At first I was horribly disappointed when I realized she wasn’t selling me ecstacy, but became excited when she said she possessed an acoustic set that Matt recorded for satellite radio. The only thing was that I couldn’t share it with anyone, because she was the only one in the room during the recording and it would be fairly easy to tell who leaked it. I thanked her by personally autographing a hat that became ruined by a smelly, wet substance at the intern karaoke party and we called it even. But since she posted Thunder Road, all bets are off.
For those that do not know Jess, this experience of hers is akin to Eddie Vedder showing up at my front door and giving me an autographed meatball hoagie.
